Bride’s rant about cheap wedding gift angers internet

Newlywed Laura received a gift basked filled with sweet treats from a guest named Kathy.

The Canadian bride took issue with the present, which came with a note that read: “Life is delicious – enjoy!” She texted Kathy to say she had paid $US200 ($A273) on food for her and her guest and only received lollies in return.

But Reddit users have branded the move “disrespectful” after the debate – which originally took place in June 2013 – was shared again, reigniting the fury.

“What planet is this horrible bride living on? If you don’t like or want the gift, then re-gift the damn thing and move on with your life,” one raged.

“Looking at the picture, it looked like a well thought out gift and those boxes/baskets can be expensive,” another said, adding that it didn’t seem like a “great start to the marriage if she has time for moaning”.

While one said: “What a jerk. I remember not all my guests gave a card, and you know what, I loved that they were there to dance and laugh and eat with me.”

Others branded the bride “rude” and “ungrateful,” with some discussing the “expectation of expensive gifts” and labelling it “strange”.

An article in the local newspaper at the time showed a photo the bride had shared of the basket which was filled with lollies, biscuits and crackers.

It stated Laura had sent a text to Kathy initially to thank her for attending her big day, before unleashing on the quality of the pressie.

“I’m not sure if it’s the first wedding you have been to, but for your next wedding … people give envelopes. I lost out on $200 covering you and your date’s plate … and got fluffy whip and sour patch kids in return. Just a heads-up for the future.”

Kathy, shocked by the response, took to Facebook to ask if her present was really that bad but received an outpouring of support labelling Laura “rude”.

Laura even asked for the receipt stating she was “gluten intolerant”.

“Weddings are to make money for your future … not to pay for people’s meals. Do more research,” she said.

However Kathy stood by her gift, declaring the bride had “the etiquette of a twig”.

Is it OK for a guest to give a gift basket or should they always leave cash in the card? Let us know in the comments below.

David Charles Glennie jailed for choking partner

David Charles Glennie’s temper boiled over during a booze-fuelled night on the town in November last year over an irrational belief his partner was cheating on him.

Glennie, 38, pleaded guilty in Brisbane District Court on Wednesday to four counts of assault occasioning bodily harm, two counts of strangulation and deprivation of liberty.

The court was told Glennie and his partner of five months went out for drinks in Brisbane on November 23 last year.

Crown prosecutor Chontelle Farnsworth said when the pair returned to their hotel room later that night, Glennie repeatedly punched, kicked and slapped his partner.

David Charles Glennie subjected his partner to a terrifying domestic tirade in November last year, where he punched, kicked and choked her until she couldn’t breathe. On Wednesday, he was jailed for three and a half years.

“He threw her to the ground, jumped on top of her and strangled her,” Ms Farnsworth said.

Glennie choked the woman again, this time until she couldn’t breathe and she urinated on the floor.

Ms Farnsworth said the woman couldn’t breathe for a few seconds and was spitting out bile.

“She thought she was going to die,” she said.

When the woman attempted to leave, Glennie jumped in front of her and blocked her way.

Despite repeated pleas for an ambulance, he refused to call one.

Authorities were alerted when the woman convinced Glennie to let her go out for a smoke.

Glennie was arrested in Tweed Heads on November 30 on a separate drug matter and was extradited to Queensland to appear on the charges.

Ms Farnsworth called for a head sentence of three-and-a-half to four years’ jail, calling Glennie’s actions “completely unwarranted and absolutely unacceptable”.

Defence lawyer Robert Glenday said Glennie struggled with alcohol dependency, which stemmed from trauma he suffered as a young boy.

Mr Glenday said his client was seeking treatment in prison but had limited access to rehabilitation programs due to coronavirus lockdowns.

“He knows what the problem is and he needs to do something about it,” he said.

In sentencing Glennie to three-and-a-half years’ jail, Judge Paul Smith urged him to think of his daughters who didn’t want to “see him in jail”.

“Unless you deal with your alcohol dependency... this will just get longer and longer,” Judge Smith said.

“(Your daughters) are ladies as well, you wouldn’t want their partners treating them like you treated this lady, would you?”

Glennie will be eligible for parole on January 19 next year.

Wife slammed for exposing cheating husband in ad

After discovering her husband had been cheating on her, she decided to tell her entire neighbourhood by way of putting flyers on lamp posts around the family’s suburb in the US.

The posters display (what was presumed to be at the time) a happy family portrait with a big red circle around her hubby’s face as he lovingly has an arm around both his wife and son.

For more stories like this, go to kidspot.com.au

Below the photo was the following: “Abandoned his wife and kids in NY to ... [be with] MILFs (and for crappy government job!).

“Some neighbour you have! He’s still married and living with another woman,” it continued.

“Police: Please cite him for Adultery – Class 4 misdemeanour according to Virginia Code 18.2-365.”

Reddit users have slammed a mum who exposed her cheating husband in neighbourhood ad that included the faces of their children. Picture: Reddit

WHO IS IN THE WRONG?

The poster quickly attracted attention after being shared on Reddit where it caused a divide.

Although some people really felt for the enraged wife, most were incredulous that she put up a photo of her poor innocent children.

“I would never do this either way, but I can’t understand why she didn’t just do a giant headshot of him. I understand she wants to emphasise the abandonment of his family component, but I feel like the words would have been enough,” one said.

Another stated that the wife’s behaviour was as unforgivable as her partner’s adultery.

“Why would she put the kids’ pictures on the flyers?! Do that to this scumbag if you wish. Considering the children’s pics are on here, I’m sure they have already been put thru hell by their parents. I get it, a lover scorned, but the kids? Really? They are both pieces of trash.”

While someone else echoed the exact same point.

“Now you have kids with dirty laundry aired to the public. It’s hard enough to have one person leaving your family and the dynamic changing. It’s worse when you have one parent actively making it even more of a hell on kids that didn’t do anything.

“Imagine how difficult school ought to be knowing they know your family drama? Or the act that your parent put revenge above your mental wellbeing? Dude is an asshole, but the person that made the flyer isn’t less of one either.”

‘SHE’LL REGRET IT LATER...’

The impact on the kids from airing the family’s dirty laundry continued to be a big issue with most commenters.

“I feel sorry for the kids. Dad abandons them, mum is just weird and hysterical and can’t let them mourn the loss of their father in private,” said one.

“You’re making collateral damage that could’ve been dealt with better. You’re broadcasting to the entire town, with the kids involved, that he cheated,” said another.

However, there were some empathetic people who could see the vengeful wife’s side of things.

“She’ll regret it later but she must’ve been filled with absolute rage,” one said.

“He was probably lying to her 24/7 and maintaining his persona as loving dad etc. It’s so humiliating for the betrayed spouse.”

’Makes no sense’: Brides fight back over coronavirus wedding restrictions

Wendy El-Khoury, the founder of popular online marketplace Wedded Wonderland told news.com.au a lot of the rules “make no sense” when compared to restrictions on sporting matches and shopping centres, and are savaging businesses and disrupting couples’ lives.

Ms El-Khoury started the Save Our Weddings campaign in March this year when she realised the industry was being forgotten thanks to a lack of official representation.

She said there have been devastating effects, with one couple she knows having to put their IVF treatments on hold after postponing their wedding for a third time. She said couples are being affected “financially, emotionally and mentally” by the situation.

“I receive emails daily from once-upon-a-time thriving businesses looking for answers,” she said, adding some are struggling with the decision to close permanently, while others consider sacking their staff.

“This industry is primarily made up of micro-entrepreneurs, incredible creatives who have had to work hard to build their businesses from scratch,” Ms El-Khoury said. “There is little external investment and a complete reliance of bookings and cash flow.”

The group said some brides have been planning their weddings for 18 months.

RELATED: Bride donates wedding food to charity

BRIDES FRUSTRATED BY INCONSISTENCIES

She said couples were mostly happy to comply with coronavirus restrictions and hold COVID-safe weddings, but said “inconsistencies around this is what has frustrated many”.

“From sporting activities, to gyms, schools, parks and shopping centres working with no capacity on numbers (rather a four sqm rule) it makes no sense for a wedding venue with a 1000 seated capacity to work with numbers like 150 in NSW for example.

“On top of which at weddings, you cannot stand, walk around, engage with your family and friends however can do this in every other circumstance in your life.”

“Fairness must be the underlying denominator when such decisions are being made,” she said.

She also said other potential positives around weddings, versus other types of gatherings, were not being considered, for example:

• The guests are known to the hosts

• Requests made prior to attendance for unwell guests to not attend

• Venues clean entire spaces between functions from napery, linen, cutlery, crockery, flooring, bathrooms and otherwise

• The menu and food service have been altered to comply with COVID safe practices

She said safety measures like sanitisation stations, temperature checklist and keeping guests details, already implemented at other venues, were also working at weddings.

Wedded Wonderland has a large following on social media, but Ms El-Khoury said when they launched a new Facebook group it acted like a “saving grace” for brides to be, as they tried to stay up to date with the changing restrictions.

“We recognised our responsibility as industry leaders to use our platform and make the voices of the people heard,” she said.

“Unlike many industries there is no official lobby or organisation that represents this industry in its entirety which means – the idiosyncrasies of this market needed to be communicated effectively to the powers above.”

She said business is also suffering and a lack of communication from the government is an ongoing problem.

“Small businesses make the Australian economy go round, so now what?” she asked.

She added a huge amount of small businesses rely on weddings for cash injections, including the beauty industry, like teeth whitening and tanning specialists, hairdressers and makeup artists. The hospitality industry also has specialist caterers who rely on weddings to survive. Ms El-Khoury also pointed out that weddings help stimulate domestic travel and tourism as well as other retail spending.

She said what couples are seeking is “access to information”.

“We understand we are in the middle of a global pandemic however some sort of framework and guidance from the government and health officials would assist many couples in planning their wedding, and save them a lot of money, time and heartache from the unknown.”

She said moving forward she thinks the government needs to give the wedding industry a road map as the industry approaches its peak season.

“Many were confident things would be ‘back to normal’ now,” she said.

WEDDING RESTRICTIONS AROUND AUSTRALIA

• In NSW a maximum of 150 people are permitted to attend a wedding and must adhere to the four square metre rule. All attendees need to provide their name and contact details so they can be contact traced if necessary. Dancing is also not permitted except for the bride and groom.

• In Queensland, weddings with a COVID-safe plan can have up to 100 attendees — weddings without a COVID-safe plan can only have ten attendees.

• In Metropolitan Melbourne weddings are currently banned unless granted an exemption on compassionate grounds. In regional Victoria weddings can have only five attendees (the couple, two witnesses and the celebrant).

• In South Australia weddings are capped at 100 people and the bride and groom are only permitted one dance. Additionally food and beverage cannot be served from a communal area.

• In Western Australia restrictions around weddings have been eased, except for events with over 500 people, where guests need to maintain 2 metres of social distance.

• In Tasmania all larger gatherings are limited by the density of the area with guests required two square metres per person. Venues are permitted up to 250 people in an enclosed space and 500 people in an undivided outdoor space.

• In the Northern Territory any event with more than 100 people requires the bride and groom to complete a COVID-19 safety checklist. A wedding with more than 500 people in the NT would also need to complete this checklist and receive approval from the Chief Health Officer in the state.

Relationship Rehab: ‘Stupid’ texts behind husband’s sex fail

WIFE’S ‘FLIRTY’ TEXTS TO ANOTHER MAN RUINED MY SEX DRIVE

QUESTION: My wife was sexting a bloke who she said she was just “stupid talking” with but I saw the messages and they were very flirty and quite sexual. We are working it out although I’m not 100% convinced she is telling the truth when she says that she’s stopped messaging him. We have an average sex life but now I’m struggling to get in the mood for sex. This is now adding more stress to me trying to work it out. Have I now become impotent from this?

ANSWER: It sounds like you’re experiencing what we would call ‘situational erectile dysfunction’ due to the relationship issues you’re facing. Unfortunately, the added stress that you feel probably isn’t helping.

It’s unlikely to be lasting, especially if you manage to sort your relationship issues out.

There are medications available that can help with your erections, but they aren’t designed to help get you in the mood.

I recommend sorting out the issues in your relationship first. You’ve clearly been impacted by her messages with this other bloke. That’s totally understandable. Sexting would generally be considered a form of infidelity. Regardless of how she saw it, it sounds like a huge betrayal of trust. You’ll need to rebuild that trust in your relationship.

Getting things back on track after infidelity (of any kind), is possible, but it takes time and effort for both partners involved.

Sexologist and couples therapist Isiah McKimmie answers your sex questions.

It concerns me that you’re still worried about her messaging this guy – and that she seems to be minimising/dismissing what was going on. For a couple to overcome infidelity or betrayal, it’s important the person who did the betraying can acknowledge what they’ve done, take responsibility and understand the impact their behaviour had on their partner. I’m not sure that your wife has been able to do that so far. It’s going to make it difficult to repair and recover from until she does.

If you haven’t already, I suggest reaching out to a couples therapist to help you resolve the issue of her texting this bloke and rebuild communication and trust in your relationship. If your sexual desire and erections don’t return, it may also be helpful to see a sexologist or sex therapist who can help you resolve these issues.

WHY IS SEX ALWAYS A ‘CHORE’?

QUESTION: Why do I always lose sexual attraction after around one year in a relationship? I love my current partner but after more than a year together, sex has became a chore.

‘Why do I always lose sexual attraction after one year in a relationship?’ Picture: iStock

ANSWER: There are a couple of things I suspect might be going on here.

I often share here about “attachment style” and the impact that can have on our relationships. It can also have an impact on our sexual desire. It’s possible that you have what we call an ‘avoidant attachment style’, which means too much closeness in your relationships is going to freak you out a bit. People with an avoidant attachment style find ways to create more distance in their relationships, avoiding sex can be one of those ways.

It may also be because you have certain beliefs about sex that are getting in the way of your desire. The fact that you see sex as a ‘chore’ tells me it’s something you think you have to do for someone else, not yourself and your own pleasure.

HOW DO I USE LUBE?

QUESTION: I’m thinking of using lube in the bedroom but I’m not sure where to start as there are so many available. How would you recommend I go about choosing what lube to use?

‘How do I use lube so sex can be more enjoyable?’ Picture: iStock

ANSWER: Using lube can is a great idea. It can definitely make things more comfortable and enjoyable.

Choosing a lube is somewhat dependent on how you want to use it.

Water-based lubricants are safe to use with toys and condoms, but can become a bit sticky.

Silicone lubes are slipperier and long-lasting, but it’s not recommended that they be used with silicone sex toys.

Oil-based lube can’t be used with condoms.

Scented, flavoured and ‘warming’ lubes can have ingredients that upset the delicate PH balance of your vagina, so I don’t recommend them. Same with petroleum-based products.

Personally, I recommend lubricants that are mostly organic or have mostly natural ingredients.

Some brands I recommend are: Good Clean Love, Überlube Sliquid, YES and Sylk.

Groom whose wedding sparked 100 coronavirus cases reveals dad’s final words

Groom Manoli said his father, who tested positive for COVID-19 two days after the wedding, told him to “be strong”.

The couple, Betty and Manoli, held their now infamous wedding at Oyster Cove restaurant and bar on March 21, two days before the New Zealand government announced a nationwide Level Four lockdown. The event led to a large outbreak of coronavirus cases among guests with almost 100 people becoming infected.

“It was an amazing day with all our family around us,” Betty told Newshub in a new documentary Patrick Gower: On Lockdown. “Then it all changed.”

Manoli’s father Chrisanthos Tzanoudakis, originally from Greece, had been living in Wellington for 50 years. He owned a fish and chip shop and worked on the wharves. Chrisanthos had planned to return to Greece after the wedding. But within days of the wedding, a guest tested positive for COVID-19. Manoli and Betty then also tested positive.

The couple said a guest rang them days after the wedding to say he had tested positive.

“One of the guests rang me to ask how we were,” said Betty. “He said that he was unwell and had been tested for COVID-19 and was positive.”

The number of people linked to the wedding who have tested positive has now grown to 98 — and two people have died, including Manoli’s father Chrisanthos.

Chrisanthos was hospitalised the Thursday after the wedding.

“He got rushed to hospital. He was going up and down, and then he started deteriorating,” Manoli said. He said his father was given an oxygen mask, but kept trying to remove it because he was in so much pain.

His father said to him in Greek, “be strong, and we will get through it”. They were the last words he uttered before dying on April 10 — just 20 days after the wedding.

According to 9 News one of their guests — a flight attendant — has been identified as the source of the outbreak.

It’s believed they brought the virus into the country from overseas.

Manoli said in the report he doesn’t blame his father’s death on anyone — he only blames the virus.
